Siemens S7-1200 TIA Portal Software - 2-day Introduction to Programming
Applied Controls, Inc. has put together an introductory course to the newly introduced Siemens "Step7 V11" Software, commonly referred to as the “Portal” version. The Step7 Software Version 11 is a comprehensive set of software tools for developing and debugging programs for the Siemens S7-1200 programmable controllers.
In this two-day course, we explore the navigation methods used in a Portal project to give the user an overall view of the projects he will develop. Features of device setup, I/O configuration, and Profibus/Profinet networks are explored first. We look at the common "tools" in programming relay ladder logic - timers, counters and simple logic.
We then look at structured programming methods that are the mainstay feature of Siemens' Programmable Controllers. A dissertation on Organization Blocks, Function Calls and Function Blocks explains the common methods used in structuring your program.
We highlight Organization Blocks to understand their purpose in startup, error trapping, and interrupt handling. We demonstrate how Function Calls can be used as subroutines, how Data Blocks get used for operator interface and mathematical formulas and how Function Blocks become instrumental in data management.
We conclude the session by taking completed programs and focus on debugging methods by using charts, on-line help menus, cross-references of elements in the programs, and how to document and print the programs.
The course uses an overhead projector with direct link to computer, blackboard emphasis and hands-on work with new P4 Training Computers with Widescreen LCD Monitors to present the course material. We try to keep the workshop attendance under eight people so that each person can gain experience.
